The four founding partners, Greg Bradshaw, Kristina O'Neal, Adam Farmerie, and William Harris, have been friends for over three decades, and AvroKO's four fundamental values (collective creation, working from macro to micro, hospitality, and lateral thinking) are born from their lifelong friendship and creative process.
After a multi-million dollar renovation, Jay Hotel joins the Marriott Group and is designed by award-winning global design firm AvroKO to feature the Fauvist façade of The Jay by renowned architect John · Portman and introduce the concept of "warm brutalism." To commemorate the building's history, the warm Brutalist concept blurs the lines between designs while paying homage to local artists.
Blending brutalist shapes with a tonal palette of colors and shapes, the design embodies calm, with the hotel's small and small details reminiscent of San Francisco, and design elements inspired by the city's sights, sounds, and people.
The hotel's spiral staircase is a love letter to John · Portman, inspired by his own home. The openings in the slats reveal the tension of heavy and soft forms of concrete artwork specially commissioned by Guerin. On the pedestal is a piece of pure bronze art salvaged from the original project. Crafted in cast bronze by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, it towers into the sky and connects three floors.

Greg Bradshaw, co-founder and principal of AvroKO, said. "We envisioned The Jay to feel like an 'informed friend' – a friendly and welcoming place. By introducing warm wood, textured stone and stucco, the original structure of the building is respected, while giving it new life and vitality.
