Hyatt Corporation acquires standard international, a pioneering lifestyle company, combining Hyatt's best-in-class operations with Standard experience creation, design, planning, public relations, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment. Described as the rebellious younger brother of The Standard, The StandardX is located in the vibrant post-industrial enclave of Fitzroy (Melbourne's Fitzroy), rooted in a neighborhood with iconic record stores, punk clubs, haunts of legendary writers.
The hotel is inspired by Fitzroy's heyday in the '70s and '80s, when artists such as Nick Cave, Ollie Olsen, Stuart Grant, and Rowland S. Howard established the Little Band scene and created a hotbed of creative energy where experimental art, music, and culture flourished. The StandardX boldly chooses locations with a cultural pulse, welcoming guests into the esoteric world of art, fashion, and music scenes. Here, instead of leaving the community, guests are given keys to unlock hidden treasures.
The interior design included lace-clad columns by local artist Sarah Smalltown, paintings by Dane Lovett, custom Furniture and antiques, and the design team Hecker Guthrie wanted to create a space that reflected Fitzroy's appreciation of crafts, hospitality, and art, a gallery-like hotel experience.
