Built in 1895, the Warehouse Hotel is located along the Singapore River as part of the Straitsof Malacca trade route. The hotel offers 37 modern boutique rooms in the vibrant Robertson Quay neighborhood with a focus on heritage and local culture.
At the heart of the architectural design is to preserve the historic heritage of the warehouse, while the interior design focuses on integrating Singapore's distinctive elements to create a new, industrial-feel boutique hotel atmosphere. The exposed frame structure, the high ceilings leading to the roof, and the pitched roof have been retained. The lobby's high ceilings are enhanced by the hanging of decorative pulleys from the distinctive "godown" (a 19th-century Southeast Asian term for warehouse buildings, meaning "stacks") era and a metal staircase, a visual contrast and cross-generational juxtaposition that is appealing.
Exposed brick walls and geometric walls create a strong contrast between brutality and sophistication, history and modernity.
The hotel's signature restaurant, "Po", is inspired by the word "popo", which means "grandmother" in Mandarin. The design of the space continues the local experience, with nostalgic elements such as rattan chairs, stone tabletops and "communal dining tables" for a sense of intimacy.
The use of mirror screens is just the right thing to do, the icing on the cake.
Guest room area
The 37 hotel rooms are decorated in soothing tones and are mainly made of brass, stone, wood, as well as mesh glass and ferrous metal in the bathrooms. The furnishings and lifestyle items are mostly locally sourced, reflecting Singapore's cultural history into the details of the space.
